It is located at a distance of 11 kilometers from Jaipur city which is also known as “the Pink city” in Rajasthan. The Amber Fort is the most popular tourist attraction in Rajasthan. It was constructed in the year 1592 but was modified for almost two centuries by the successive rulers. On the remains of an earlier construction Raja Man Singh built this imposing fort and it was completed by Raja Sawai jai Singh. It is situated in Amber, the ancient capital of the Kachhawaha Rajputs on a hillside overlooking Maotha Lake.
In the construction of the Amber fort one can find a smooth amalgamation of Hindu and Mughal architecture. The outer appearance seems rough and withered but the interior designs are magnificent and stunning. The interior of the fort provides a soothing and warm ambience which is least expected from its outer appearance. The interiors are beautifully adorned with painted scenes of hunting and wars adorn the walls along with precious stones and mirrors set into plasters. The marvelous interior decoration of the Amer / Amber Fort is influenced by both, the Hindu and Muslim manner of ornamentation. Exquisite paintings of hunting scenes on the walls depict the temperament of the Rajputs. The magnificent setting of mirrors and the ornamentation work of the interior designwith precious stone is simply astonishing and never fails to lure its visitors.
The Fort is famous for its structures such as Diwan-E-Aam (hall for the public), Sukh Niwas, Kali Temple and Shila Mata Temple. The Kesar Kyari, a perfectly manicured garden adds to the beauty of the Fort. Diwan-E-Aam displays the magnificent carving works with stunning pillars. Sukh Niwas and Jas Mandir apartments have very beautifully captured the Mughal and Rajput architectural genius. The Sheesh Mahal is the most exquisite creation in the Amber Fort. As the name stands, it means the Palace of Mirrors. For all the visitors, a big hall that is filled with thousands of tiny mirrors all over, never fails to amuse and lure them. It is said that during the days of yore, a single tiny candle would illuminate the entire hall. The tiny intricate mirrors are preserved till date and look as royal as they did then. To add to its charm, Maotha Lake makes the foreground and the crystal mirror image of the Fort, on the still waters of the lake, seems tobe beautiful illusion. The best part of this tourist attraction situated on a crafty hill, is the royal elephant ride. The Fort has four divisions with magnificent premises and in order to reach there visitors can climb up the imposing stairway or they can take enjoyable elephant safari. But the flawless beauty of the Fort can be enjoyed royally with an elephant ride.
