Kasargod, Kerala

Kasargod, is a town and a municipality in Kasargod district in the Indian state of Kerala. It is the administrative headquarters of Kasargod district as well as of Kasargod Taluk. The city was formerly called Kanjirakuttom. Landmarks of note include Malik Deenar Mosque, Mallikkarjuna Temple, Theruvatthu Mosque, Madhur Temple,Chandragiri Fort.The Bekal Fort is also a major tourist attraction near Kasargod.

Kasargod is located in the northern part of Kerala. The place is known for its handloom and coir industry. Also, it is famous for spectacular items of bell metal. Though still untouched by urban lifestyle, Kasargod tourism is fast catching up because of its natural beauty. The main economic activity of people of Kasargod is fishing. While you travel to Kasargod, you will see the forest-covered lush green Western Ghats towards the East and the vast Arabian Sea towards the West. It is flanked by two main rivers, Talapadi and the Trikaripur in north and south respectively.

Kasargod has a variety of temples and places of worship that have a distinct architectural style. The place gets its distinct beauty from the calm lagoons fringed with coconut trees and dense vegetation. There are many places in the city as well as surrounding it and are quite a feast to the eyes. The temple of Madhur Mahaganapathy is unique and is a must visit. Other historical structures like the great Juma Masjid speak volumes about the rich cultural background of the place. Places to See:

Ananthapura Lake Temple


Ananthapura is the only lake temple in Kerala and is located around 30 kilometers from Bekal Fort. The original deity of Sree Ananthapadmanabha (Trivandrum) is located here. 

Bekal Hole Aqua Park


At the Bekal Hole Aqua Park, pedal boats, water cycles and other light weight canoes are offered for relaxing and enjoying the cool backwaters. 

Bekal Fort 


The Bekal Fort is the largest fort in Kerala that is located on a hilltop, giving a scenic view of the picturesque countryside. 

Chandragiri Fort


This fort was built in the 17th century by Sivappa Nayaka of Bedanore. The fort has an ancient temple and holds a festival where the deity is taken to Thrikkanaya Temple at Bekal. 

Kappil Beach


The Kappil Beach is a serene and secluded beach, which is fast turning into a major tourist attraction with its calm waters and palm fringed shores. One can enjoy a beautiful view of the vast Arabian Sea from the Kodi cliff nearby. 

Kanwatheertha Beach


The Kanwatheertha Beach is famous for a large swimming pool-like formation of the sea on the vast beach and has people coming every now and then to enjoy a swim in the calm waters.

Anandasram


Located at a distance of about 15 kilometers from Kasargod is a place called Anandasram. It is a famous spiritual center established in the year 1939 by Swami Ramdas. It is famous all over the world and offers a peaceful environment to pursue meditation and spiritual studies. 

Ranipuram


Ranipuram is a place located at a distance of 55 kilometers and offers plenty of opportunities for trekking. It is situated at a height of more than 750 meters above sea level and is known for its varied natural vegetation. One can have a gala time here amidst cool winds and enchanting nature. 

Veliyaparamba


The most scenic backwater stretch in Kerala, Veliyaparambha is fed by four rivers and has small islands scattered here and there. Veliyaparamba is fast turning into a favorite backwater resort for tourists, which offers amazing boat cruises on the calm waters............
