Thrissur/Trichur, Kerala

Thrissur is an important town of Kerala. Known as the "cultural capital" of Kerala, Trichur is known for its rich historical and traditional heritage. Your Trichur travel will be an experience that you shall not forget easily for the rest of your lives. Trichur was an important place even in the ancient politics of the state. Tourism in Trichur / Thrissur is catching up as it is very easy as the place is easily accessible by air, rail and roads. Located in the center of Kerala, this place is easily reachable from anywhere in Kerala.

Trichur has many interesting places to see. The most famous of them all is the Guruvayoor temple, which is a very famous pilgrimage center in India. Also visit the Kodungalloor pilgrimage, which is famous for its various worship centers in Kerala. Apart from these, one can visit the Archeological museum and the Shakthan Thampuran Palace built by the famous Raja Rama Varma.

Aarattupuzha Pooram


The Ayyappa Temple at Thrissur is famous for its Aarattupuzha Pooram festival that takes place in the month of March. It is one of the most colorful carnivals of Kerala. 

Art Museum

The famous Art Museum is located in the Zoo compound and is a rich treat for all art lovers and connoisseurs of anything related to art. The museum has collections of ancient sculptures, metal statues, carvings and jewellery.

Peechi Dam


The Peechi Dam is built across the Manali River and is a popular tourist attraction spot. The catchment area of this Dam has been converted into a beautiful expanse of lovely gardens with fountains and flowering plants. Sprawling over an area of almost 3200 acres, this catchment area is what attracts tourists and locals alike to relax and enjoy themselves. 

St. Thomas Memorial

The St. Thomas memorial is located at Kodungalloor and is a famous church. A lot of devotees visit the church and pay tribute to St. Thomas, who is best known as a missionary to India. 

Thriprayar Temple


Located towards the south of Trichur, Thriprayar Temple is a famous temple dedicated to Lord Rama. The ornate carvings on the temple walls and pillars are a living example of beautiful and traditional architecture that is so exclusive of Kerala. 

Thrissur Pooram

This Pooram is considered to be the mother of all Poorams in Kerala. A grand procession of richly ornamented elephants takes place and is worth a watch. The Trichur Pooram is celebrated in the months of April-May annually.

Guruvayoor Temple


Located at a distance of 32 kilometers from Trichur, Guruvayoor temple is a very famous pilgrimage that is well known all over the world. Dedicated to Lord Krishna, known as Guruvayoorappan, a mere glimpse of the grand idol adorned in flowers and precious stones, is enough for you to feel truly blessed by the Lord. 

Ariyannoor Temple

This temple is famous for its carved gable that is beautifully decorated. It has been compared with the works of superior artists like Louise Nevelson, an American artist. This temple is dedicated to Hari Kanyaka and is said to have been built around 14th century AD. Though mostly in ruins now, it is definitely worth a visit. It is now a protected monument under law. 

Athirapilly Waterfalls


A very popular picnic and recreation spot, this 80 feet high waterfall is a splendid sight and it attracts a large number of tourists and locals. It is located at a distance of 63 kilometers from Trichur and is situated at the onset of Sholayar Ranges. 

Koodalmanikyam Temple

This is the only temple is India that is dedicated to Bharata, brother of Lord Rama of the Hindu mythology. The temple is famous for its annual festival, which takes place in the months of April-May that marks the end of the festival season in Kerala. 

Viralimalai

Located at a distance of 30 kilometers from Trichur, this place is famous for the Lord Subramanya Temple. The place also has a sanctuary for the national bird of India, peacocks............
