Jorhat Excursions

Sibsagar


The historic town of Sibsagar is situated at a distance of 55 km from Jorhat. An important center of oil production in Assam, the place was once the capital of the Ahom Dynasty and has a number of monuments and temples within the town. This includes the famous Shivadol, Rang Ghar, Kareng Ghar, Tolatol Ghar, Charaideo, Gaurisagar Tank and Gargaon Palace. Commuting to this place is very easy, as it is only one and a half hour journey by road from Jorhat.


This important urban center of Assam is also referred to as the Tea City of India. Dibrugarh is only about 136 km from Jorhat and both the places are connected by well maintained roadways. Some of the important places to visit in and around Dibrugarh are Koli Aai Than, Barbarua Maidam, Bogibil Bridge, Dibru-Saikhowa Park and Sarumechow- Bormechow Maidam.


Kaziranga National Park is situated on the banks of the river Brahmaputra, in the northeast state of Assam. Covering a total area of about 430 sq km, it is one of the most famous tourist attractions of the state. The history of the park can be traced back to the era when Mary Victoria Leiter Curzon, the wife of Viceroy of India Lord Curzon, visited the place, in the year 1904.


Since its establishment in the year 1997, Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary has been playing a major role in the research and conservation of the primate community of the animal kingdom. The sanctuary is situated at an approximate distance of 19 km from the city of Jorhat and covers a total area of about 20.98 sq km. Initially, during the British reign, the sanctuary was known as the Hollongapar Forest.

Nambar Forest Reserve


The one thing that Nambar Forest Reserve is especially famous for is a rejuvenating hot spring called Garampani. This is only about 60 km from Jorhat and attracts thousands of tourists every year. If you are planning to make a trip to Jorhat, make sure to include the place in your itinerary.

Dimapur


Another important tourist attraction near the city of Jorhat is Dimapur. Situated at a distance of about 136 km from Jorhat, it is the main commercial hub in the state of Nagaland. The major tourist spots of this area are Kachari ruins, North-East Zone Cultural Center (NEZCC), Intanki Wildlife Sanctuary, Triple Falls, Rangapahar Reserve Forest and Green Park............
